Few people believe that Tyson Fury’s retirement is legitimate, and they see it as a “Gypsy King” up to his old tricks, trying to artificially increase his market value. It’s like with a painter. After their departure, their works become priceless.
The king’s greed
Fury makes himself scarce, seeking to be lured back with billions by Turki Al-Sheikh. For a fighter with Tyson’s limited talent and 0-2 record in his last two fights, he doesn’t even consider Minimum Salary an opponent for the recently knocked out Anthony Joshua.
The 36-year-old Fury’s fights are horrible to watch, and you could pick almost any heavyweight in the division that would be more entertaining. It’s interesting that Brits still want to see Fury because American fans see him as pure unwatchable mediocrity.
If the Gypsy King waits too long with his game, he may not get the prize he wants from Turki. Fans lose interest quickly, especially when a fighter is old and hasn’t won a high-profile fight in 10 years, as in the case of Fury.
His last victory against a quality fighter was in 2015 when he defeated 39-year-old Wladimir Klitschko. Even that win wasn’t anything special, but that’s how Fury became a star in the UK. The British gained great output from this victory. This shows how easy it is to become a star in different countries.
Fury’s Restlessness
“I think he wants us to be desperate for him to come back, saying, ‘No, no, please don’t,'” Johnny Nelson told talkSport Boxing about him believing Tyson Fury is faking his retirement, in the hopes that fans will beg him to come back.
“They know how to take care of this young kid (Eddie Hearn). He’s not going anywhere because there’s way too much money for him to walk away from the AJ fight. “Today, I am retired, I am finished. The next day I want half a billion,” Johnny said of Fury’s game.
“So he doesn’t even play a good game of poker. You know what it is. He is trying to increase the price. I think Eddie predicted it a week before. So, I don’t believe it,” Nelson said.
