Faced with a short delivery time from Eathan Bosch in the last over, Dawson attempted a powerful shot, but the ball came off the outside of his bat, flying away from extra cover. Neesham, stationed in the infield, moved quickly to his right. Perfectly anticipating the trajectory, he dove all the way, extending his right arm. In an extraordinary display of athleticism and hand-eye coordination, he scooped the ball out of the air while diving forward, making one of the most breathtaking catches of the game. Dawson, who looked dangerous with a quickfire 25 from 11 balls, had to depart, thanks to Neesham’s heroics. Captain Aiden Markram leads Sunrisers Eastern Cape to victory over Pretoria Capitals

Sunrisers Eastern Cape defeated Pretoria Capitals by 52 points in the 17th match of the SA20, held at St. George’s Park, Gqeberha, on January 22. Captain of the Sunrisers Aiden Markram was the standout performer, winning the player of the match award for his unbeaten 68 off 55 balls.

Eastern Cape faced early problems after losing three quick wickets in the powerplay, managing just 27 runs in the first six overs. Markram anchored the innings with a calm and collected approach, forging vital partnerships with Marco Jansen (24 years old) and Dawson (25 years old). Despite wickets falling around him, Markram ensured that the Eastern Cape reached a defendable total. Dawson’s late flourish took the team to 149/7, while Bosch (3/33) and Will Jacks (2/18) troubled the middle order.

The Capitals faltered early in their run, losing four wickets for just 34 runs during the powerplay. Jansen was unplayable from the start, striking out key hitters including Jacks (0) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (7). However Ackerman Brands (25) and Keagan Lion-Cachet (28) attempted a brief recovery, Dawson and Jansen maintained the pressure. The Capitals’ lower order failed to offer any resistance, and the team was bundled out for just 97 in 16.3 overs.
