After conquering the Vampire film, Nosferatu’s Robert Eggers next takes on werewolves

The meticulous writer-director has announced that his next project will be hairier than Count Orlok’s mustache.

I guess the recent rumor Labyrinth restart we’ll have to wait. Robert Eggerswho is still very proud of the critical praise and box office receipts of Nosferatuannounced that he remained in the specific period monster kingdom for now, this time with a werewolf at its center. It even follows the same release schedule, with Christmas 2026 looking to repeat the success of Nosferatuthe 2024 Christmas drop.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that Eggers will direct his next feature film Werwulfwhich he co-wrote with Sjón, his screenplay collaborator on The Northerner. The trade notes don’t have many details yet, but do state that “sources say the story is set in 13th century England.” The script also features period-accurate dialogue and features translations and annotations for those uninitiated in Old English. Eggers originally planned to shoot the feature in black and white, but this is no longer the case.

As Nosferatu, Werwulf will be a Focus Features release. This will be the final historical horror tale from Eggers, whose filmography also includes The witch And The lighthouse. Throughout his filmography, he has demonstrated a remarkable talent for capturing period detail, first seen in 1630s New England. The witch but especially, perhaps, in the 1830s, in Germany. Nosferatuhis biggest box office success to date. Writing an entire storyline in Old English is definitely a bold move for his next chapter.

With the new Universal Wolfman having failed to make much of an impact in its first week of release, by the time Christmas 2026 rolls around, audiences may well have a new appetite for another nerve-wracking transformation under the full moon. Will Bill Skarsgård add “13th century werewolf” to his prosthetic-laden resume, or will Eggers take a different route with his creature this time around? This is just the beginning for Eggers to sneakily create his own dark and dirty version of all the famous monsters? Let us know what you think below.
