Berlanga targets Scull’s IBF belt in 2025

Edgar Berlanga says he wants to get his hands on the “bad IBF title” in 2025, and he is targeting super middleweight champion William Scull this year.

Canelo Blowjob Dream

Berlanga (22-1, 17 KO) has already outlined his plans to quickly capture the IBF title from Scull and use the belt as a lure to get a rematch against unified super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez.

Berlanga is strong A salary of 10 million dollars because this fight was nice, especially since he didn’t need to get into risky fights to get the title shot. He should be happy with that money because he won’t get a second chance to fight Canelo no matter if he wins the IBF belt.

If Berlanga wins this belt, he will have to defend it immediately against a top contender like Osleys Iglesias, and he will lose it immediately.

It’s unlikely the Mexican superstar will be interested in fighting Berlanga again this soon, if at all. He would receive criticism for fighting a weak and unworthy Brooklyn, New York native a second time.

Roadblock to rehydration

Even if Berlanga could challenge for the IBF title, the 10-pound rehydration rule would hurt his chances of winning the belt. With his rehydration up to 190, he was unable to maintain his weight at 178 for secondary weight control on fight day. Berlanga would have rehydrated to 193 for his fight against Canelo. At this size, he should compete at light heavyweight.

Last September, Berlanga, 27, lost by 12-round unanimous decision to Canelo at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

“I want this IBF title so bad!!!! 2025 world champion!! I’m going to fuck, sleep in a scull 🇵🇷🇵🇷”, declared Edgar Berlanga on X about his desire to challenge IBF super middleweight champion William Scull for his belt.

Another leap forward?

Boxing fans on social media are not in favor of Berlanga getting a world title shot against IBF champion Scull. This would send the wrong message to fans that Berlanga can outrun top contenders to get repeat world title chances without winning them.

What Berlanga should be fighting these contenders for a title shot this time rather than being handed it on a silver platter:

Caleb Plant
Osley Iglesias
Diego Pacheco
Christian Mbilli
Bektemir Melikuziev
Jaime Munguia

Berlanga is ranked #4 WBA, #4 WBO and #6 WBC. Considering he’s not ranked in the top 15 by the International Boxing Federation, he’d be better off fighting for one of the other three belts. However, for Berlanga to put himself in the position of proxy for the WBA, WBC and WBO belts, he would have to fight Plant, Iglesias, Mbilli or Pacheco.

In other words, fighters who would probably beat him easily. But if Berlanga goes after the vulnerable Scull’s IBF belt, he will have the keys to a well-paid rematch against Canelo. It would be a shrewd move on Berlanga’s part, but he’s unlikely to get the second fight with Canelo. The reaction from fans would be severe for the Mexican star, who would not want to face it.
