Glenn Close has identified the film that she believes finally made audiences realize that she could be more than Cruella de Vil – her 1978 film Fatal attraction.
“I think that was the first time people realized I could be sexy,” Close, 77, said in an interview with Today’s Willie Geist in the Sunday, January 19 episode of Sunday session.
The film stars Close as Alex Forrest, a woman who begins an affair with Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas). She becomes increasingly mentally unstable as it becomes clear that he is trying to end the relationship, which ultimately leads to her demise.
The film started out as the short Derivation before it was developed into a feature film by the writer-director James Dearden. It spent eight weeks at number one at the box office and was the second highest-grossing film of 1987, far from Three men and a baby. Fatal Attraction earned more than $157 million domestically and earned six Academy Award nominations, including for Close.
In addition to reminiscing about her storied career in Hollywood, Close recently opened up about her personal life.
