Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall talks about her brief love affair with Harry Styles.
While Thirlwall, 32, won the British version of The X factor in 2011 as a member of Little Mix, she had already auditioned in 2010, the same year. Styles, 30, had auditioned as a soloist and later formed One direction.
“I think we went on a date… we were like 16,” Thirlwall recalled during an interview on the Monday, December 20 episode of “The Louis Théroux podcast.”
“He had just been brought into the group. It was really funny because we kept in touch and as soon as they did some shows, he didn’t respond to me and I thought, “That’s it now.” He left. He made it,’” the “Angel of My Dreams” singer continued.
One Direction may have put their music on hiatus together, but bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik have kept the ball rolling when it comes to romance. Thirlwall said she and Styles met the following year. The X factor when she was on the show with Little Mix. “I saw him in a room after (the show) and he said, ‘I’m so sorry for ignoring you.'”
Host Louis Theroux interjected, “Did he ghost you?” Thirlwall replied with a laugh: “Yes.”
However, Thirlwall now sees the funny side of things.
“But I was so young that it didn’t really matter,” she says.
Thirlwall then complimented the Singer of “Watermelon Sugar”adding: “He was always very, very lovely. He got to where he is because he’s very talented and he’s very lovable.
Even though Thirlwall and Styles didn’t last the distance, his bandmate, Perrie Edwardsdated Styles’ bandmate, Zayn Malikfor four years. The couple got engaged in 2013 but decided to separate in August 2015.

“From 17 to 21, I was in a relationship,” Malik said of his relationship with Edwards in a May 2024 interview with Nylon. “I was engaged. I didn’t know anything about anything at that time. I thought I did it because I was 21. I was legally allowed to do everything, but I didn’t know anything.
“My parents were pretty old school, so I never brought home a girlfriend or anything,” he added. “When I had the opportunity to do this, I jumped in, two feet forward, and I was like, ‘I’m going to have a girlfriend and she’s going to live with me.’ That makes me a grown man.
Following their separation, Malik moved on with Gigi Hadidwith whom he shares his daughter Khai, 4 years old. (The couple separated in October 2021.) Edwards shares a son, Axel, 3 years oldwith a football player Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
