Former Bachelor Brad Womack remembers an awkward interaction with Ellen DeGeneres.
“I continued (The) Ellen (DeGeneres show) and I just bombed. I mean, I just bombed,” Womack, 52, said on the Monday, January 20, episode. “Almost Famous” podcast. “Even the publicist at the time gave me puppy dog eyes, like, ‘Oh, that didn’t go very well.'”
“She called me an idiot the first season because I didn’t choose anyone,” Womack added of DeGeneres, 66. “Thank God she asked me to come back for a little redemption. But this was the third time I was on Ellen announcing the second season.
Womack was previously The Bachelor on Season 11 of the franchise in 2007, but ultimately didn’t choose anyone. He was then chosen as once again the leader for season 15 in 2011, and eventually popped the question to Emilie Maynard. Womack and Maynard, now 38, called off their engagement months after the finale aired. (Maynard became The bachelorette in 2012 and accepted a proposal to Jeff Holm. The couple announced their separation later that year. She has since married Tyler Johnson and they share five children as well Maynard’s 19-year-old daughter Ricki of his relationship with the late racing driver Ricky Hendrick.)
Womack recalls being a “ball of nerves” during his appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Shownoting that that’s when he realized “I’m about to do this thing again.”
“It was really nerve-wracking,” he said. “She didn’t give me a break, of course, and the public didn’t agree. It was a bad look. But yes, she called me an idiot, but thank God she apologized.
When asked why the comedian apologized to Womack, he said he thought DeGeneres “got the other side of the story.”
“I didn’t choose anyone the first season, of course, I immediately became public enemy No. 1,” he said. “It wasn’t my intention, I wanted to stay faithful. I’ve said it so many times, I really believe in the premise of the show. I just didn’t want to sell out. »
He continued: “I think (Ellen) took her first reaction and was like, ‘Who does this guy think he is?’ And then I guess, I don’t know, on another channel, she got the real story and she invited me in. I was able to tell my side of the story and so it went a little better. .I had some redemption, but not much.
