Sourav Ganguly names greatest white-ball player of all time

Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has praised one of India’s current cricket icons, calling him the greatest white-ball player the world has ever seen. Ganguly’s comments come despite the player’s recent dip in form, including struggles in recent matches.

Sourav Ganguly highlights Indian cricket star’s outstanding achievements

Ganguly felicitated Virat Kohli as a once-in-a-lifetime cricketer, comparable to past Indian women cricketers Jhulan Goswami And Mithali Raj. He hailed Kohli’s incredible achievement of scoring 80 international centuries and called him the greatest white-ball player of all time. However, the former Indian captain expressed surprise over Kohli’s decline in form after his century in the first Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 against Australia in Perth, noting that despite his struggles in India, he expected a strong series in Australia, which unfortunately did not materialize.

“Virat Kohli is a unique cricketer just like Jhulan and Mithali. Scoring 80 hundreds in international cricket is incredible. For me he is the greatest white ball player the world has ever seen. But I was really surprised by the way he hit in Australia after the 100 in Perth. He struggled before that here in India, but I thought after the 100 in Perth it would be a big series for him.“, Ganguly said in an interview with Revsportz in Kolkata.

Ganguly shares his optimism for the player’s future

Despite these challenges, Ganguly expressed Kohli’s ability to overcome challenges, highlighting his resilience and adaptability. The Kolkata boy acknowledged that every player has strengths and weaknesses, but stressed the importance of adapting to weaknesses over time. Ganguly believes Kohli still has a lot of cricket left in him.

“But it happens. I think every player has his weaknesses and strengths, but what matters is how you adapt to your weaknesses when you play good cricket over a period of time. I still feel like there’s a lot of cricket left in Virat Kohli,» he added.
