The match, which took place at the Gujarat College Ground in Ahmedabad, witnessed a remarkable performance from Desai, who took 9 wickets in a single innings, leaving the spectators in awe.

Desai’s fate was simply extraordinary. In just 15 overs, he took 9 wickets, conceding only 36 runs at an economy rate of 2.40. Impressively, he bowled first 5 overs, further demonstrating his control and accuracy. This remarkable feat not only led to Uttarakhand’s collapse in the first innings but also set a new benchmark in Gujarat’s Ranji Trophy history. Desai’s figures surpassed the previous record held by the former Gujarat left-arm spinner. Rakesh Dhruvwho had claimed 8 wickets for 31 runs against Rajasthan in 2012.

Desai’s exceptional performance is now etched in Ranji Trophy history as the third best bowling figure ever recorded in the competition. First place always belongs to Anshul Kambojwho claimed all 10 wickets for Haryana against Kerala in November 2024. Additionally, Mumbai Ankeet Chavan had previously taken 9 wickets for just 23 runs against Punjab in December 2012, but today, Desai’s feat has added a new chapter to the record books.

Uttarakhand’s struggles against Gujarat bowling

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Uttarakhand were expected to put in a strong performance. However, they were quickly overwhelmed by Gujarat’s formidable bowling attack. Uttarakhand went all out for just 111 runs, with Desai leading the charge and taking 9 wickets. from Gujarat Vishal Jaiswal also played a supporting role, contributing with a single wicket to ensure Uttarakhand’s early collapse.

Despite the onslaught of the Gujarat bowlers, only one batter from Uttarakhand managed to fight bravely. Shashwat Dangwalthe highest scorer of Uttarakhand, contributed 35 runs off 49 balls, including 5 fours and 1 six. His innings was a rare bright spot in an otherwise dismal performance for Uttarakhand, as he did not stay out at the end of Uttarakhand’s first innings.
